Stair Lift Track Length Measurement Guide
- Stand at the top of the landing. Place the end of a measuring tape at the edge of the landing closest to the stairs. Have an assistant stretch the tape down the stairs, ensuring that the tape touches the edge of each stair. Continue to stretch the tape until it touches the bottom landing floor. Double-check the measurement before noting it on a piece of paper.
- Leave the end of the measuring tape in place at the top of the landing. Note the distance from the top edge of the landing to the top front edge of the bottom step.
- Measure the width of the steps from the inside of the baluster to the wall, or from baluster to baluster, if part of the stairway is not against the wall.
- Place the measuring tape on the floor where the bottom stair meets the bottom landing. Stretch the tape away from the stairway along the floor until it touches the nearest wall to obtain the amount of clearance at the bottom of the stairs. Obtain the clearance at the top landing by measuring from the edge of the landing to the nearest wall.
- Measure the height of the stair steps from the tread of one step to the tread of the next step. Measure the depth of the stair step from the front of the tread to the riser of the next step. Measure the distance from the front edge of one stair tread to the front edge of the tread on the step above it.
